Freyja Vestergaard

Freyja Vestergaard is the oldest of three siblings. She’s sixteen, and she’s pretty independent and mature for her age. Maybe because she had to take more responsibility when her Dad got the job on a Cruise ship. He’s often away from home for months, and Freyja needed to help her mom. She’s doing the washing, some of the cleaning and when her siblings were younger, a lot of baby sitting.

Freyja had a hard time adapting to her new responsibilities. From twelve to fourteen, she was either arguing with her mom or sulking. She cut classes and lied about it, she had either snack attacks or didn’t eat properly for days. Her mom was really worried Freyja would develop an eating disorder, but thankfully it was a phase that only lasted a couple of weeks.

A lot of things got better when Freyja’s gym teacher asked her to join the school track team. Freyja always liked athletic sports, and she didn’t want to be a cheerleader. So the track team it was. She found a way to channel her negative energy, and she made new friends. She won a couple of races and ran her first marathon, and since then she’s been training for all sorts of competitions. But she’s active in the team’s organization as well. Freyja volunteered to organize fund raising events and she is part of the social media team.

Freyja turned from angry and frustrated kid into a goal-driven, disciplined and rather level-headed teen. She is popular, but she is not what you would call a social butterfly. She has a couple of very good friends, most of them are on the track team as well. Freyja has never been an extrovert, and although she likes to party occasionally, she’s taking her athletic ambitions seriously. She has training almost every day, and Bran often keeps her company on his bike when she’s going for a run. Her stamina is sometimes bordering on doggedness, and she still has to learn how to get over failing to achieve her athletic goals with positive confidence.

But of course she’s still a teenage girl. She tries to look her best, is interested in fashion, and she had a secret crush on a boy in her history class for months. He has a girl friend and she got over him eventually. Freyja loves to sing, mostly she sings along with her favorite songs when she’s doing chores or her homework. She and her best friend sometimes do Karaoke at her friend’s place, but she would be embarrassed to sing in front of an audience. Since she started to manage some of the track team’s social media accounts, Freyja learned a lot about photography and video editing. She really likes doing that, and she thinks about choosing a career path where she can use these skills. She is not sure what she wants to do in the future, and for now she’s trying to achieve her athletic goals and learn as much as possible.
