First repaint of 2023

The first repaint of 2023.

Winter isn’t a great time for repaints, too dark too soon. But this girl managed to get a new look despite the gloomy weather. She could sure use a change of lipstick color, it clashed with her hair in a way that makes me wonder why they chose it.

She is a MTM DPP74. I named her Zora, after the red-haired heroine of a book I loved as a kid.

The pattern of this fabric makes the dress look almost as if she wore a golden lace top or something. I like the effect very much. So does Zora, apparently…

Unfortunately she came with a tiny black spot on her jaw, but it’s hardly visible. The more I see of the MTMs, the more disappointed I am about the quality of these dolls. I use to sand off the tiny plastic knobs they have near the joints. All the dolls have them, and some of these knobs are so big that they might rip clothes – or even skin.

I am not sure about her hair. Should I give her curls? I actually like the straight hair with the side part, but it could use a bit of styling. Maybe a cut? What do you think?

And I finally got to finish the sofa for the living room. I already had one, but I thought it would be nicer to have a sofa that matches the armchairs. The living room still needs some more pictures, curtains and props, but you get a sneak peek. Took me long enough to continue working on it.

  1. I loved Barbie as a child. Did not think she was pretty. Your face-ups are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.

  2. I love what you’ve done with Zora, she’s beautiful Mia. I also love your very clever pattern placement to make use of the fabric design, it really does create the illusion of separate pieces of clothing. Your attention to detail amazes me, some people just wouldn’t think of placing it that way.
The living room has come up a real treat with the completed sofa, I really like it. It’s so fresh and bright.

    1. Thank you very much! The thing with using the same fabric for different dolls is that it might look boring after a while, so one has to come up with new ways of using it. The room still looks a bit empty – or empty of books, that is ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. You did a splendid job on the repaint and the dress, I love both! Her hair looks nice, personally I would rather cut it than curl it, but not too short, just a little bit. I second Sandi, your placement of the pattern on the dress is awesome. Still love the sofa, and also the outside view, it’s beautiful. ๐Ÿ˜Š
