Merry Christmas!

Light and warmth, comfy cushions, the scent of the Christmas tree and cookies, the crackle of fire in the fireplace… the kids are excited. Tristania just wrapped the last of the presents, Seraphine finished baking and the kids have been decorating the tree.

I wish all of you a wonderful time, merry Christmas and a bit of piece and quiet, delicious food and happiness.

Saturday story time

Eryn and Solovet needed to go shopping today, so Seraphine and Tristania look after Fiona and Amanthis. They all came over for breakfast.

Amanthis loves strawberry jam, and she only lets Trish clean it off her face because she is busy wondering why they have the same shirt colour.

The shirt is forgotton as soon as she discovers the toys. Fiona and Amanthis have a discussion about who should be the one who gets to walk the tiger-duck.

Tristania keeps an eye on the two.

Amanthis wants to teach her doll Elsbeth how to ride a duck, but Elsbeth keeps falling off.

Meanwhile, Stella and Sophia are hanging out in Stella’s room.

Alasdair came over to keep Seraphine company.

Fiona is leaving the tiger duck to Amanthis, who is happy to have it all to herself. Seraphine offers to read to Fiona, something she usually loves.

But this time she is more interested in the maganzine she spotted on the table.

Eryn and Solovet are back, and the little ones are excited to see what they bought. Amanthis is fascinated by the face on the shopping bag.

Look what I got, girls! This one is for Unnea.

And this was a bargain, it’ll go well with the grey shirt. You can have the funny bag to play later, dear.

Mom, can I have one of these when I grow up?

Oh no, I tore a hole in my cardigan with that clothes hanger.

After tea and chatting about this and that Eryn and Solovet take the kids and leave.

Seraphine loves them all, but she’s been a bit tired all day. She’s looking forward to a quiet evening with Alasdair.

More stuff for the diorama

It’s starting to feel like the home I imagined. I finished some new stuff and got a package with a kitty and china. The china is a bit too small and the cat a little too large, but they work.

I would have liked to have the china in blue, but apparently they picked it randomly. I’ve seen it so often on flickr that it seems to be something like a must have for doll homes.

It’s rather tiny compared to the roses, but maybe my girls are collecting miniatures

This book case is usually half-hidden by the sofa, so I took this picture to show how it looks without other furniture blocking the view. I added the second, smaller case to close the gap and have some more visible books.

And one can never have enough of those. My girls are all great readers, and this is just a small part of all the books, most of them are in the imaginary library.

The books are mostly just a piece of cardboard wrapped in a cover. I cut those from a book club magazine. Unfortunately I only had one in German, so some of the titles are German.

But you can spot some volumes of Game of Thrones, books about architecture and art, all sorts of dictionaries and a couple of Jane Austen novels.

I tried to find some titles my girls would like to read.

There are some books with actual pages and some National geographic magazines, too.

I wrapped the cardboard in white paper first to make the visible “pages” look more real. There must be about 200 books by now. I never counted them, but these are not all I have made, they just didn’t fit in the book cases.

I finished the clock for the mantle piece and changed the picture above the fireplace.

Somehow this one fits better into the whole interior design. And the family pictures have white frames now.

This is the cat, and as a typical cat it occupies the warmest, cosiest place. It’s face looks a bit strange, but if you turn it like this it’s ok.

The clock is made of a front and back part cut out of cardboard, an old watch and a piece of cardboard with an added lace tape – and white paint.

The candelabra. It’s made out of tattoo needle bars, metal beads, a screw nut and a coin. The candles are wax and black yarn.

The window corner. And again, it’s too dark out to take better pictures, but in this case I actually like the shades.

Crappy light and three-legged-chairs

We had kind of a holiday today (people wear costumes, get terribly drunk and dance in the streets to awful music), and since I’d rather stay out of their way I tried to take some pictures of the new diorama.
Unfortunately the only free space to put it is in a corner that doesn’t get much light if it’s as gloomy as today. And my girls must have been jumping on the furniture when I wasn’t looking, one of the chair’s legs broke off. I didn’t notice until it was too late, so you have to ignore the leg in the pictures.
As soon as the weather gets better and I have better light I will take loads of pictures, but I wanted to post at least these to give you an impression how the whole thing turned out.

Building a fireplace

A comfy armchair in front of a fireplace, a good book and a cup of tea…
I always dreamed of having a fireplace, but since that’ll stay a dream I thought at least my resin family should have one. It will be part of the new diorama.

Now I just need some things to put on the mantle, like a clock or a candelabra. Have to build those too, I guess.

I think I will darken the sides a bit more, and get some orange transparent paper or some more LED candles. And I do have a swing chair, so it’ll be a comfy place to read and dream staring into the flames…
